Mr. Persaud lectures in Economics
with emphasis on areas having to do with Development
Economics, Macroeconomics and Monetary Theory,
Financial Structure, and Technological Change. His
research has covered fields including financing
environmental initiatives, rural-urban migration,
survey methodology and problems of inflation and
growth. He has been with the Department of Economics
at the University of the West Indies since 1977. He
has authored a number of publications on issues
affecting Caribbean economies. While being integrally
involved in teaching he has participated in
administration, serving as Head of the Department of
Economics and chairing committees and sub-committees
having to do with computing on the Campus, both
during the reign of the "mainframe" and at
the introduction of distributed computing with shared
facilities associated with the PC.
Mr. Persaud has also served as
consultant to several national, regional and
international organizations including the Natural
Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA Jamaica),
CARICOM, The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of
Countries (ACP), the Commonwealth Secretariat, the
World Bank and the International Labour Organization.
Mr. Persaud currently serves as Director on the
Boards of Crown Eagle Life Insurance Company and
Ciboney Group Ltd. among others. He Chaired the Board
of Island Victoria Bank upon its acquisition by
FINSAC, prior to its absorption into Union Bank of
Jamaica.
He plays Chess, enjoys music, the
hills and countryside of Jamaica and a game of
Badminton.
